Participants:  Gayla Bratton (HNF), Mimi Leagan (CH), Michelle Johnson (ICP), Debbie Caver (SRO), Dennis Gound (ORNL), Betty Robinette (Y-12), Sharon West (SLAC), Kevin Schmidt (SRS), Jerry Massee (LASO), Kathy Macal (ANL), Marsha Phish (WCH), Roselle Drahushak-Crow (GFO), Mary Petersen (BNL), Catherine Crawley (ORISE), Allison Easter (AMES), Fina Martinez-Myers (NSTec), Diane Quenell (ORD), Dale Claflin (INL), Jannean Elliott (OSTI), Judy Gilmore (OSTI), and Kathy Waldrop (OSTI)

OSTI Celebrates 60 Years (Kathy Waldrop): As many of you are aware, OSTI is celebrating its 60th Anniversary.  Our theme is: Accelerating Science Discovery: From the 40’s to the Future.  In fact we have a new OSTI logo to commemorate OSTI’s 60 years on the OSTI Home Page.  Beneath the logo are links to several links to pages about OSTI’s history and additional pages will be added soon.

Two events are scheduled as a part of the celebration.  They will both be held on September 18.  The first event will held on-site at OSTI and will begin after lunch.  Invitations will be sent to former OSTI employees (retirees and others), local STIP Managers, as well as others.  The on-site event will feature exhibits representing Atoms for Peace, Then and Now with pictorial displays and live demonstrations of STI Management advancements, and recorded interviews of former OSTI employees.  Brief comments will be made by Dr. Jeffrey Salmon, Associate Under Secretary for Science and guest lecturer Dr. Eugene Garfield, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) (Now Thomson Scientific) and the creator of Science Citations Index.  The second event will be held that evening at 7:00 p.m. at the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) in Oak Ridge.  Dr. Garfield will be giving a lecture at this event.  A reception in the museum lobby will follow the lecture.  The public is invited to participate in this event.

CENDI (Judy Gilmore):  The Annual CENDI Planning Meeting will be held in Oak Ridge at OSTI Sept 4th and 5th.  CENDI is an interagency working group of senior scientific and technical information (STI) managers from 13 Federal science agencies and information organizations, with OSTI representing DOE.  Additional information from the annual meeting will be provided.

E-Link (Kathy Waldrop):  This is a reminder about the new section of E-Link related to reconciling your site’s data.  With very few keystrokes you can see if your site has broken links, hidden documents, documents that still have the US Dissemination Only access limitation and records that can’t be processed due to one issue or another.  If you haven’t already done so, please share this information with others within your organization that should be reconciling these records, etc.  If you need more direction related to how to get this done, send me an e-mail or give me a call.

Harvesting Update (Jannean Elliott):  Idaho National Laboratory has moved from testing into full production harvesting.  The first set of production runs reached back to 2004 in order to catch INL up to the current date.  More than 1800 records were picked up and processed into E-Link.

Miscellaneous (All):

  • STIP Site Assistance Visits (Kathy Waldrop):  Judy Gilmore, David Bellis, David Gottholm, and I will be traveling to the Richland, Washington area the week of September 10, for STIP Site Assistance Visits at the Office of River Protection (ORP) where we will meet with ORP, Pacific Northwest Site Office, and Richland Operations Office.  After the first day of meetings we will visit Fluor Hanford, Washington Closure Hanford, and PNNL.

In scheduling visits for FY 2008, we would like for you to let us know if you would like for us to visit.

  • OUO Order Revision:  The Order is being revised and has suggested changes will impact the STI Program.  A call to discuss further will be held on Monday, August 20.  All interested should let Kathy Waldrop know so that she can reserve enough lines for the call.

The next teleconference will be held October 10.
