OSTI's Information Bridge is one example of a deep Web collection. It contains full text reports of DOE R&D results.

Almost all Federal agencies, not just DOE, are populating the deep Web. In my view, both the surface Web and deep Web are necessary and should co-exist. The surface Web offers information that is amenable to convenient search engines like Yahoo! and Google. The deep Web offers enormous content in databases with their own powerful search engines that allow precision searching.
