ZPPR progress report for July, August and September as of September 30, 1986
- eds.
The ZPPR-15 metal fuel physics benchmark experiments in support of the IFR program have been completed. The program began with the 15A assembly which had fuel with plutonium and depleted uranium, sodium coolant and structural steel. Results from the ZPPR-15A experiments were reported in ZPR-TM-469. Zirconium was added to the inner core in place of stainless steel to form assembly 15B. Assembly 15C represented a midcycle fuel composition with about 50% of the core drawers having uranium fuel and 50% having plutonium fuel. The final assembly, 15D, represented a near-startup composition with 90% uranium fuel and 10% plutonium fuel. Experiments in ZPPR-15D were completed in July. The final experiments measured the Doppler coefficient in various samples and used the helium accumulation fluence monitor technique to measure the {sup 10}B(n,He) production rate in natural B{sub 4}C pins in a mockup control rod.
