The strategy of the US Department of Energy (DOE) for developing the technology required to assure that transuranic (TRU) wastes are in acceptable forms for transportation and final disposition is described. This document begins with an overview of TRU waste management and then discusses the existing and the projected inventories of TRU waste, as well as storage capabilities. A summary of the DOE strategy for the management of TRU waste is presented, followed by a description of organizations, interfaces, and current activities. A glossary, information on funding, interfaces, and foreign technology development programs are presented in the appendices.
