Abstract

The D0 detector has been recording data at the Tevatron {bar p}p Collider since May 1992. Because the D0 calorimeter is hermetic and has large acceptance it is well suited for semi-exclusive final state jet studies. We present a primary measurement of the distribution d{sup 3}N/dE{sub t1}/d{eta}{sub 1}/d{eta}{sub 2} at {radical}s TeV over a large range of {eta}. The sensitivity of this cross-section to parton momentum distributions and the ability of D0 to discriminate between possible parton distributions is discussed.

Implications of the Tevatron jet results on PDF

We report a new measurement of the pseudorapidity ({eta}) and transverse-energy (E{sub T}) dependence of the inclusive jet production cross section in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1:8 TeV using 95 pb{sup {minus}1} of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The differential cross section d{sup 2}{sigma}/(dE{sub T}d{eta}) is presented up to {vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar} = 3, significantly extending previous measurements. The results are in good overall agreement with next-to-leading order predictions from QCD, indicate a preference for certain parton distribution functions, and provide the world's best constraint on the gluon distribution at high parton momentum fraction x.

The D0 Experiment (E-740) is located at the Tevatron of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab). As one of only two general-purpose experiments situated to take full advantage of $$p\overline{p}$$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV, D0 occupies an important position in the investigation of fundamental interactions at high energies. Measurement of the inclusive triple differential dijet cross section, d{sup 3}{sigma}/dE{sub T}d{sub {eta}1}d{sub {eta}2}, at a center of mass energy {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector during the 1992--1993 run. The sensitivity of this measurement to different parton distribution functions is explored. A comparison of the data to NLO theory using different parton distributions functions indicates the need for a smaller gluon content in the x range accessible at the Tevatron than is predicted by current parton distribution sets.
