In this paper we report on a search for neutrino oscillations performed at the nuclear power reactor in Goesgen (Switzerland). The energy spectra of the electron antineutrinos emerging from the reactor core have been measured at distances of L/sub 1/ = 37.9 m (experiment 1), L/sub 2/ = 45.9 m (experiment 2) and L/sub 3/ = 64.7 m (experiment 3). The measured spectra are analyzed in terms of a two-neutrnio oscillation model. Status of the San Onofre neutrino oscillation experiment

The San Onofre experiment is designed to investigate neutrino oscillations in the parameter space suggested by the atmospheric neutrino problem. A liquid-scintillator-based 12-ton detector will be installed at 650 m from the two units of the San Onofre power reactor. For the detection of the {anti v}{sub e}-induced inverse beta decay reaction a novel four-fold coincidence method is used allowing effective suppression of background at the relatively low shallow depth of 25 mwe. Study of Nuclei and Elementary Particles At Low and Intermediate Energies

The primary activity associated with this DOE grant was the construction, commissioning, operation, and analysis of results of the KamLAND experiment. KamLAND is a large (1kT) liquid scintillator neutrino detector located deep underground in the Kamioka mine in Japan. This effort was a spectacular scientific success, with a major discovery of neutrino oscillations in the solar sector and the pioneering measurement of geoneutrinos due to radioactive decay within the earth. During the final year of the grant period, effort was devoted to developing the new Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment in China.

Study of neutrino oscillations remain a powerful probe for electroweak physics. The early experiments, using neutrinos from nuclear reactors at the ILL Grenoble and at Goesgen, have shown that neutrino mixing and neutrino masses, as proposed in some theoretical models, must be very small. Specifically, limits were set for the mass parameter, {Delta}m{sup 2}, of 2 x 10{sup {minus}2} eV{sup 2}, with limits for the mixing amplitude of about 0.1, putting to rest earlier claims for neutrino oscillations.
