Idaho Chemical Processing Plant and Plutonium-Uranium Extraction Plant phaseout/deactivation study
- Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear Co., Idaho Falls, ID (United States)
- Westinghouse Hanford Co., Richland, WA (United States)
The decision to cease all US Department of Energy (DOE) reprocessing of nuclear fuels was made on April 28, 1992. This study provides insight into and a comparison of the management, technical, compliance, and safety strategies for deactivating the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant (ICPP) at Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear Company (WINCO) and the Westinghouse Hanford Company (WHC) Plutonium-Uranium Extraction (PUREX) Plant. The purpose of this study is to ensure that lessons-learned and future plans are coordinated between the two facilities.
