Title: Hydrophobic aluminum nitride powder for aqueous tape casting

Hydrophobic AlN powder was prepared by adsorption of octadecanoic acid. The surface modified AlN powder was then used in aqueous tape casting. A statistical experimental design was employed. A comparative study of aqueous slurries and cast tapes for hydrophobic AlN and Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} was made. The effect of slurry components on slurry viscosity, tensile strength and strain to failure of green tapes was discussed.
