'Proteomics Today' by M. Hamdan and P. G. Righetti (Book Review)
"Proteomics Today" is an ambitious and useful text for the advanced student, the technician, and the laboratory lead. The topics covered range from an overview of mass spectrometry instrumentation, applications of proteomics to cancer research, strategies for protein quantification, to advances in separation science as it relates to proteomics. In general the content is information-rich and focuses on brief synopses of relevant research papers. The presentation is heavy on experimental detail on matters ranging from specific protocols through preferred equipment and supplies to troubleshooting procedures. This book will be most useful as a laboratory guide to specific methods of proteomic analysis and should probably function well as an introduction to protocols and methods for investigators seeking to add proteomic techniques to their experimental repertoire, with a sufficient theoretical introduction and background to provide a context for the choice of various proteomic techniques.
