Auger-deck loadout analysis
- McDermott Inc., New Orleans, LA (United States)
The Auger deck was fabricated atop a truss-frame system and loaded onto a transport barge in the transverse direction using conventional skidding operations. It was necessary to accurately predict the vertical deflections of the skidding surfaces during loadout. This was due to the deck weight of approximately of 24,000 short tons and the load carrying capacity of the transport barge. Computer analyses were performed in order to simulate the Auger deck loadout process. Critical steps were identified, and relative vertical deflections between the barge skidding surface and the land-based skidways was analyzed. A loadout ``envelope`` was subsequently developed for each critical step. This determined the allowable range of vertical deflections for the transport barge skidding surface relative to the land-based skidway system. Loads resulting from these vertical deflections were used to establish the ballast pattern for the transport barge. This paper describes the modeling techniques and the analysis procedures used for the Auger deck loadout.
