Populist passion passing? An editorial about Earth Day 1995

There is a contemporary fashion in being {open_quotes}green,{close_quotes} and we are not speaking of the avante guarde, the revolutionary, or the poetic. The truly dedicated environmental protection advocates, like the anti-animal fur fervents, are not followers, but are instead leaders of society. But, are there any factors at work which are not innocent? Or which are actually something other than what they seem? In this issue we list some of the demonstrations in the city most famous for smog, Los Angeles, California, and suggest Earth Day celebrants give thanks for one of the Earth`s great gifts: petroleum.
