Title: Effectiveness of water spray mitigation systems for accidental releases of hydrogen fluoride

Abstract

This report is one of several work products generated by the Industry Cooperative HF Mitigation/Assessment Program. This ad hoc industry program began in late 1987 to study and test techniques for mitigating accidental releases of hydrogen fluoride (HF) and alkylation unit acid (AUA) and to better estimate ambient impacts from such releases. The hazards of HF have long been recognized. Standard operating practices focused on minimizing the possibility of a release and mitigating the effects if a release should occur. These practices are continually monitored and improved to maximize safety protection based on the available technical data. This recent program targeted further improvements based on new technical data.
