The presence of diploptene (17..beta..(H),21..beta..(H)-hop-22(20)-ene) in sediment cores from Bransfield Strait and McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, is reported. The organic geochemical data for these sediments provide evidence for the authigenic marine origin of this hopene.
