This article reviews predictions of shortages made in years past and concludes that technological advances, conservation practices and increased exploration have prevented expected shortages of oil, rubber, coal, timber and food. The predictions were incorrect, according to the author, primarily because the scholars extrapolated wrongly from contemporary trends.
