Reactions of cyclododecyl radicals in the pulse radiolysis of solutions of naphthalene and anthracene in liquid cyclododecane
The authors estimated the rate constants of the interaction of cyclododecyl radicals generated by a pulse of accelerated electrons in liquid cyclododecane, with naphthalene (I) and anthracene (II) in the presence and in the absence of O/sub 2/. An analysis of the structure of the spectrum and a study of the indluence of the radiation dose and the time after the end of the electron pulse on the relative optical densities at various wavelengths permit one to conclude that the bands of the spectrum correspond to different particles. Optical absorption in the region of 300-340 nm was observed in the irradiation of thoroughly evacuated samples after several electron pulses. The rate constants of the formation of adducts ArH...radicals, their conversion to more stable particles in first-order reactions, as well as the destruction of the adducts ArH...O/sub 2/...radicals in the seocnd-order reactions, were determined.
