Title: The petroleum service company engineer in the year 2000

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7075181

By the year 2000, there will be far fewer international service companies, but they will be larger and more capable. The service company engineer will have to better understand the needs and problems of the international oil companies, as he will have to work in partnership with their personnel in mostly hostile environments. He will have to be broader and more of a systems thinker. He will have to be proficient in computer and software technology and an effective team player with good communication and interpersonal skills. The paper details the technical problems that the engineer will have to face and the qualifications that will be required of an entry level service company engineer at that time. The environment in the year 2000 in which the EandP service company engineer will have to function is addressed as background to the above forecasts. Projections are provided for the likely economic, political and business climates at that time.
