Title: Synthesis and properties of novel electroactive organometallic polymers: Annual progress report, 12/1/85-11/1/86

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7066597

Since the report submitted last year, the crystal structure of 1,8-diruthenocenylnaphthalene has been refined and is now completed. The structure of this compound is very close to that of the iron analog. In particular, the dihedral angle between the cyclopentadienyl and naphthalene rings, as well as the splaying angle of the cyclopentadienyl rings in these compounds are very similar. These data provide substantial evidence for the conclusion that the large cyclopentadienyl rotational angle of 45/sup 0/ observed for the Fe analog is not the consequence of nonbonded steric interactions between hydrogens on the unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl ring and the ..beta..-hydrogen of the naphthalene ring.
