Oil, state and industrialization in Iran

In contrast to its agrarian policies, Iran's industrialization drive during 1954-1977 has received scant attention. This book is the first substantive study of Iran's industrialization that also covers the oil boom years, and is comparable to some of the studies on Egypt and Turkey. It thus fills a void in the literature. The wealth of information and data and the careful analysis combine to make it a scholarly contribution to the study of economic development in pre-1979 Iran. In particular, the quantitative measurements presented in the appendices are enormously valuable to researchers. This book, is also a valuable source in a graduate-level course on economic development in the Middle East.
