Title: Application of ecological modelling in environmental management, Part A

Book ·
OSTI ID:7026287

During the past 10 to 15 years, numerous models have been developed to help solve the increasing problems of environmental management. This is the first part of a new two-volume work. It comprises 14 chapters. The first 5 chapters provide a general introduction to the subject, describe the modelling procedure itself, examine the use of the computer in modelling, and present unit processes (biological and physical/chemical) which can be used as elements in the models presented in the following chapters. The following 9 chapters deal in turn with a particular environmental issue. For each an overview is given of the models available, and to enable the reader to use at least one of the models in practice, details are given and a practical example presented. Each chapter is constructed along the same lines, starting with an introduction to, and presentation of, the environmental problem under discussion. This is followed by processes, an overview of the relevant models available, details of a particular model, a case study and, finally, conclusions and a discussion of future research needs.
