Title: A study of magnetic field annihilation and aurora-induced currents in a power transition line and in the Trans-Alaskan pipeline: Final technical report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7020945

Progress is reported for two research projects. The first research project is to learn how the magnetic field annihilation processes occur under magnetospheric, solar, and astrophysical conditions. The second project studies energy-related problems in the arctic regions which arise from auroral effects. These auroral effects include induced electrical current in powerline systems and the Trans-Alaska pipeline and the use of both man-made and natural electromagnetic waves in sounding permafrost, one of the most serious problems in extracting and transporting crude oil. 43 refs., 25 figs.
