No hassle reboiler selection
- The Pro-Quip Corp., Tulsa, OK (United States)
This paper reports on choosing a reboiler design which depends on several factors: Flow pattern of the feed and the percent vapor of the feed, Viscosity of the feed and Liquid level in the tower feeding the reboiler. These factors make the logic for the reboiler selection guide. By answering the questions in the guide, the engineer focuses on the reboiler design giving the most effective heat transfer for the process feed condition. Standard kettle type exchanger has been the most common and reliable reboiler design. However, thermosyphon reboilers are becoming popular in modularization projects since they reduce investment cost and occupy less space. Some applications do not favor thermosyphon reboiler designs. The decision of when to select a thermosyphon vertical or horizontal reboiler is explored by using the reboiler selection guide. In addition, the design nozzle elevations are discussed for design of the thermosyphon reboiler.
