Changes in transmission and distribution
- Virginia Power, Richmond, VA (United States)
There is a double movement taking place: from monopoly to competitive market, and from a local perspective to a global economy. This article focuses on the T and D aspect of change in the industry, the change from monopoly to competitive markets, and from local to global. In the debate on these changes, there has been a lot of discussion about the introduction of competition at the generation level and about disintegration at the generation level. These changes at the generation level are occurring now, both in the US and abroad. When, the industry changes generation, the industry also must change the rest of the business. The industry must change the T and D sector. This discussion is about the impact of these changes on transmission and on distribution in the US.
