Title: Fifty years of aluminum in the oil patch

Fifty years ago, the first major application of aluminum for the petroleum industry was the installation of tank decks on two crude oil storage tanks in the Permian basin of Texas. The most recent major new application is aluminum sucker rods. From that early beginning to the present time, a variety of aluminum products have been accepted by the petroleum industry. The major applications have been pipelines, drill pipe, heat exchangers, jacketing, tanks and vessels and sacrificial anodes.
