United States energy atlas. [Review; contains glossary]
Abstract
This atlas strives to present a complete review of both renewable and nonrenewable energy resources. It serves as a reference for those who need detailed information on a specific resource or for those who need an overview of the various possibilities. Specifically, the atlas provides the following: (1) a detailed analysis of the amounts of mineral fuels and their locations within the country; (2) clarification of the uncertainties that cloud the amounts of mineral fuels; (3) highlights of the production and transportation of fuels; (4) an assessment of the renewable energy sources, with emphasis on their geographic aspects; (5) a regional and national overview of the energy attainable from both renewable and non-renewable sources; (6) a profile of each of the nation's ten economic regions that captures their energy-resource character for planning purposes; and (7) an introduction to selected energy futures, and an estimate of the impact of future demands upon the existing resources. Technical and policy matters that bear on the use of fuels or the transition to renewable energy sources are not included, except to the extent that they illuminate some resource amounts or the possibility of their extraction. A list of suggested readings accompanies each of themore »
