OSTI ID:6713528

Part I covers six days of hearings (from February 5 to June 19, 1980) held to assess oil price and availability over the next 10 to 20 years in terms of political, social, military, and economic factors and taking the basic premise that oil is a political commodity. The first group of witnesses from the Central Intelligence Agency, the State Department, DOE, and experts from the private sector made a global assessment of producers, including the Middle East, Soviet Bloc, and others. The second group made a global assessment of consumers, examined the defense and alternative supply policies for the US, and US foreign policy toward energy development in other countries. (DCK)
