The Mariana Trench marks an intraoceanic convergent plate margin at which there is a very small sediment supply. This dissertation presents petrologic and geochemical data for rocks dredged from the inner trench slope and discusses the implications of these data for models of the evolution of inner trench slopes, characteristics of early arc volcanism and the origin of ophiolites.
