Status and quality of radiation measurements in water, 1977
The data returned to the Quality Assurance Branch, Environmental Monitoring and Support Laboratory, Las Vegas, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, by participants in the Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory Intercomparison Studies Program are summarized. Some 150 state, federal, private, and international laboratories analyzed samples of unknown concentration at or near environmental levels for various radionuclides as part of the Intercomparison Studies Program for Water. In all, 24 water studies were conducted in 1977, requiring participating laboratories to measure the following radionuclides: gross alpha, gross beta, tritium, chromium-51, zinc-65, cobalt-60, ruthenium-106, cesium-134, cesium-137, strontium-89, strontium-90, radium-226, radium-228, and plutonium-239. The precision and accuracy of the cumulative reported intercomparison data for the 1977 water analyses are examined.
