Evaluation of methodologies to estimate nonroad mobile source usage
The purpose of the study was to determine whether the current 'top-down' methodologies that have been employed to develop nonroad mobile source emission inventories for nonattainment communities accurately reflect local activity levels. A total of 10 nonroad equipment categories were investigated. They include: lawn and garden equipment, airport service equipment, recreational, construction, light commercial, industrial, agricultural and logging equipment. The report also reviews the recent nonroad emission inventory studies, the development of alternative methodologies and the evaluation of methodologies. Finally, the study identified some of the difficulties associated with developing very detailed, county-level nonroad equipment activity estimates.
