Abstract

The EPA Indoor Air Quality Implementation Plan provides information on the direction of EPA's indoor air program, including the Agency's policy on indoor air and priorities for research and information dissemination over the next two years. EPA submitted the report to Congress on July 2, 1987 as required by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. There are five appendices to the report: Appendix A--Preliminary Indoor Air Pollution Information Assessment; Appendix B--FY 87 Indoor Air Research Program; Appendix C--EPA Radon Program; Appendix D--Indoor Air Resource History (Published with Appendix C); Appendix E--Indoor Air Reference Data Base.

The report presents the findings and recommendations of the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) review of emergency systems for monitoring, detecting, and preventing accidental releases of extremely hazardous substances to the environmental, and of systems for alerting the public to such releases. Technical Report

The EPA Radon Program briefly describes the goals, strategy and implementation plan adopted by the Agency for dealing specifically with radon as an indoor air pollutant. This discussion is excerpted from a more comprehensive report, EPA Interim Report to Congress on Indoor Air Pollution and Radon. The Indoor Air Resource History is a one page summary of EPA resources (funds and personnel) expended on the indoor air program. The summary begins with FY 84 and extends to FY 88 where projected figures are given.

This report, based on 16 interviews with 16 Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Chairs and other officials in New England communities, assesses the implementation of Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) at the local level. The local emergency planning districts surveyed for the report, selected primarily from the EPA's 'Priority Planning Districts,' represent every major type of community. Topics covered by the report include the scope of emergency planning, public and industrial participation, and the role of the EPA.
