Title: Cogeneration caps winery energy bills

At a time when energy demands and costs are becoming major considerations in the profitability of the winemaking business, Paul Masson solved its energy-cost squeeze by installing a natural-gas-fueled cogeneration plant that will save between $60,000 and $100,000 annually during the next 5 years. A Waukesha naturally aspirated, 6-cylinder P2895 engine with a 10:1 compression ratio is the heart of the winery's system. With the engine operating at 1200 rpm, the plant produces a 290 kW continuous rating with a standby output of 325 kW allowable for 8 hr of any 24 hr of operation. Utilizing the standby rating during cost of $360,000, payback comes in 2.5 years.
