Condensation of. cap alpha. -methylstyrene with formaldehyde in the presence of emulsifiers on KU-2 x 8 catalyst

As a result of an investigation on increasing the yield of 4-methyl-4-phenyl-1,3-dioxane, which is the required end product in the condensation of ..cap alpha..-methylstyrene with formaldehyde in the presence of branch KU-2 x 8 cation-exchange resin used as a catalyst, it was found that by introducing OP-7 and OP-10 emulsifiers, the yield of 4-methyl-4-phenyl-1,3-dioxane increases from 70 to 90%, based on the converted ..cap alpha..-methylstyrene.
