Cosmic strings as gravitational lenses
Journal Article

Superheavy strings produced at a phase transition in the early universe can be detected through their gravitational lens effect. Long strings can give rise to lines of double galaxies with relatively large angular separations between the images. It is argued that some of the known double quasars may be due to strings.
