Lung cancer epidemiology in New Mexico uranium miners: First annual progress report for the period 1 July 1986-31 March 1987
This Technical Progress Report covers the initial nine months of work performed under contract DE-FG04-86ER60452, ''Lung Cancer Epidemiology in New Mexico Uranium Miners.'' This contract extends support for a project previously funded for a three year period under contract DE-AS04-83ER60119. The principal project funded by the contract is a retrospective cohort study of underground uranium miners who had completed at least one month of underground experience by the end of 1971. During the first nine months of the new contract, we have continued to assemble exposure histories by simultaneous review of information from personnel records, exposure reports, self-reported mining histories, and the data assembled by NIOSH for the Colorado Plateau Study. We are also conducting a case control study within the cohort; for the 69 lung cancer cases incident in Hispanic and non-Hispanic whites, four controls have been selected. Preliminary analyses have been performed and analytical techniques developed. Additional follow-up of the cohort is also in progress. 1 fig., 1 tab.
