Title: Increasing the operating efficiency of radial reactors in reforming

Journal Article · · Chem. Technol. Fuels Oils (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6195604

The operating efficiency of a radial reactor is determined by how completely the volume of catalyst is utilized which depends on the uniformity of GFM (gas-feed mixture) flow distribution through the catalyst bed and on whether stagnant zones are present. The authors have performed an operating test on radial reactors in three modern commercial units of the LCh-35-11/600 type. The nonuniformity of the velocity field in the catalyst bed was evaluated from the readings of multizone thermocouples positioned in the bed. It is shown that a relatively uniform distribution of the flow is obtained only in the lower part of the catalyst bed.
