Multiratio power transmission
A plural step multiratio transmission is described comprising: an input shaft; an output shaft disposed parallel to and noncoaxial with the input shaft; a countershaft disposed parallel to and noncoaxial with both the input shaft and the output shaft; intermeshing head set gear means including gear means drivingly connected to the input shaft and countershaft respectively. An output cluster gear means drive connects with the output shaft. Three ratio gear means rotate on the input shaft and mesh with the output cluster gear means. Three ratio gear means rotate on the countershaft and operatively connect through meshing relation with respective ones of the ratio gear means on the input shaft. Engageable clutch means on the input shaft and the countershaft selectively connect the gear ratio means to the respective shafts for rotation for providing distinct gear ratios between the input shaft and the output shaft. The ratio gear means on the input shaft idler gear means is for the respective gear means on the countershaft.
