3-D seismic helps boost US production
It is not secret that 3-D seismic had had a tremendous impact on exploration and development in the US lower 48. Success of the tool in pinpoint hot spots in the US Gulf of Mexico and in the heavily developed fields of the Gulf Coast and the Permian Basin are well documented. It has served to revitalize the industry in those areas of the country. A number of successful wells in recent years can be attributed to the improved technology of 3-D seismic-and much of that production may never have been exploited without issue. Economies of scale, better seismic technology and improved interpretation methods are enabling oil and gas producers to successfully use the tool in geologically complex regions where the technology was not used a few years ago.
