Distribution System Reliability Improvements are obtainable through various methods. This paper documents significant improvements in distribution service reliability, through the use of automated reclosers in an interactive network--identified as a Loop Scheme. The case study covers system design, control equipment design, reliability considerations, control types/application and performance results at Northeast Utilities. An understanding of various loop schemes is included in the paper, both for new and existing distribution feeder sectionalizing. Future developments are noted for further distribution system reliability improvements.
