The advantages of computer-aided systems in the automotive industry are now widely recognised. Computers are being used from initial conceptual design and feasibility study to the actual construction and ultimate operation of the cars on the road. In the field of car body design, for example, the use of computers is replacing the traditional, if more expensive, testing methods such as in a wind tunnel, due to the extensive development of numerical computational methods. The papers contained in this book are related to the use of computers in such diverse applications as solid modelling, computational fluid dynamics, computer simulation, engine dynamics and other topics in design.
