This paper reports the authors results for the experimental determination of the equilibrium constant and its temperature dependence for the solution-phase hydrogen-isotope-exchange reaction OD/sup -/(daq) + HS/sup -/(aq) reversible OH/sup -/(aq) + DS/sup -/(daq). The results were obtained from measurements on electrochemical double cells of the type Pt(s) absolute value D/sub 2/(g) Na/sub 2/S(daq) HgS(s) Hg(l) absolute value HgS(s) Na/sub 2/S(aq) H/sub 2/(g) Pt(s) and analogous cells involving silver sulfide-silver electrodes in place of the mercuric sulfide-mercury electrodes. The experimental value of the equilibrium constant at 25.0 /sup 0/C for the reaction is K = 0.534 +/- 0.011; the experimental value of the standard entropy change at 25.0 /sup 0/C for the reaction is ..delta..S/sup 0/ = 7.0 +/- 1.8 J x K/sup -1/.
