Chemical induction of cancer: structural bases and biological mechanisms. Volume IIIB. Aliphatic and polyhalogenated carcinogens

Book ·
OSTI ID:6059348
The book reviewed is the fifth in a series entitled Chemical Induction of Cancer. It describes the structure-activity relationships of a wide range of chemicals: haloalkanes and alkenes (conjugated and unconjugated) and their cyclic analogs; polyhalogenated aromatic hydrocarbons and their ethers; and miscellaneous halogenated organics. In addition, an appendix has been added which includes novel types of carcinogens. A discussion of environmental effects is given; i.e., sources, extent of exposure, distribution and environmental persistence. Recent advances in chemical carcinogenesis are described including: (1) the molecular biology of the chemical induction of oncogenes or other processes which affect gene expression and (2) prediction of carcinogenicity by the use of computerized methodologies.
