Coal waste culminates a dream in Shamokin, Pennsylvania

The paper describes the atmospheric fluidized bed combustor which is burning anthracite waste in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. The plant, which is regarded as experimental, was sponsored by the Department of Energy which provided funding for the design, construction and 2 years' operation. This period expires in September 1983 and the plant was shut down in April after more than 10,000 hours of testing. The future of the plant is still undecided.
