Multi-temporal Landsat TM images were utilized in a Geographic Information System (GIS) to evaluate changes in erosion of an urbanizing watershed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The images were classified with unsupervised (maximum likelihood), and supervised (training set) technique to provide the landuse factor for use in the Soil Conservation Service Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). Additional USLE data layers in the GIS included percent slope and length, soil erodibility, and the rainfall factor. The multi-year, multi-season images were prepared using ERDAS, classified with MultiSPEC software and employed in a GRASS-GIS. The study is a follow up to previous work. In an earlier study, a summer 1984 image was used to determine changes in erosion from a 1980 field study of the watershed. This study reevaluated the 1984 image as a baseline and compared it to 1991 fall and 1992 spring images of the watershed. Results show the effect of landuse changes on the predicted soil losses in the Lake Arlington watershed from 1984--1992.
