Superfund Record of Decision (EPA Region 9): Del Norte County pesticide storage area, Crescent City, California, September 1985. Final report
The Del Norte County Pesticide Storage Area Site, located approximately one mile northwest of Crescent City, CA consists of less than one acre of land contaminated with a variety of herbicides, pesticides, and volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds. Interim and emergency storage activities that occurred during the site operations from 1970 to 1981 have resulted in the contamination of soil and ground water onsite. Available documentation about the actual day-to-day site operations is inadequate. However, site investigations revealed that a sump, approximately 15 feet by 20 feet, is the primary area of soil contamination, with organic compounds detected to a depth of approximately 15 feet below grade. It is suspected that wastes and/or rinse water were disposed of in the sump. Primary contaminants detected in both soil and ground water are 2,4-D and 1,2 dichloropropane. The selected remedial action for the site is included.
