Talking RTU phones company to report, handle alarm conditions

This paper describes a voice responding alarm and control system used by the Bright and Company to monitor conditions at two of its oil and gas wells. If an alarm condition arises, the system will call appropriate personnel and provide a voice description of the problem and allow the recipient can use dial tones to make additional queries and/or issue control messages. When a shut-down code is transmitted, it closes the well's wing valve. The field unit then confirms that the desired action has taken place. The system is also applicable to control valves on oil and gas pipeline systems. The paper briefly describes the components, operation, and reliability of the system.
