High-efficiency commercial water heater development. Annual report, January-December 1982
The development of a prototype condensing water heater for commercial applications has been completed. The selected concept consists of a high-efficiency water heater connected by appropriate plumbing to a stratified-temperature storage tank. The prototype system has been designed, fabricated, and tested in the laboratory. A steady-state efficiency above 95% and recovery efficiencies well in excess of 90% have been demonstrated experimentally. On the basis of test results and an analysis of the potential market, it is projected that the system will provide substantial paybacks in a wide variety of applications. A number of pre-production prototypes are being fabricated for field testing at representative commercial sites early in 1983.
