Change in antioxidant capacity of motor oil during aging

The authors report on work aimed at determining the interrelation between the antioxidant capacity and the quality indexes of the multigrade motor oil M-6z/10G/sub 1/ in engine service in a Volga GAZ-24 automobile, which had been operated for 10,000 km before the start of the test. Makeup with fresh oil in amount of 1/6 of the lubrication system volume was performed after the corresponding withdrawal of used oil samples for analysis. Standard Regotmas 412 filter elements were used in the lubrication system. The antioxidant capacity of the oil and the antiradical activity of the DF-11 oxidation inhibitor (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) were evaluated by a chemiluminescence method.
