Title: Synthetic Fuels Corporation. Hearings before the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, House of Representatives, Ninety-Eighth Congress, Second Session, April 3 and June 27, 1984

Book ·

Ten representatives of the Synthetic Fuels Corporation (SFC) spoke at a two-day hearing on information obtained from General Accounting Office (GAO) audits. Of concern to the committee was a perceived obsession for secrecy and security, including the reluctance to share information with Congress. Related issues were class action suits brought against the SFC president in relation to his former banking practices, which raise questions about his management skills, and the failure to report these legal problems during his confirmation. The questions focused on ethics and responsibility to taxpayers, who are liable for a potential $15 billion in SFC loan and price guarantees. SFC board members explained their procedures and their rationale for the use of safe houses to conduct business. Material submitted for the record by SFC and letters from members of the Investigations Subcommittee follow the testimony.
