The Disabilities Act and the hiring process--Life became more complicated
The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) has now been in effect for over six months, and the authors are beginning to get a better picture of how this legislation can impact the everyday operations of a propane retailer. This column will examine one of the most common practical issues that an employer faces under the ADA--the hiring of an employee. One word of caution at the outset. He has had significant help from his law firm's Labor Law Group in writing this column. The issues that are presented under the ADA are new and difficult, and they call for careful individual attention. This column is meant only as a general informational guideline, and the best advice is to consult carefully with your attorney regarding how the requirements of the ADA affect the individual situation.
