Denver-Julesburg Basin: gas prices cast long shadow in D-J

Uncertainty has observers suggesting a wide range of possibilities for the Denver Basin as the spector of lower oil and gas prices casts a shadow on new drilling programs. Optimistic operators say that changes in marketing concepts, better technology, and the belief that lower gas prices are only temporary can meet the challenge. Some of the strategies they will use are direct marketing and sales to end users, more careful budgeting, and a possibility of reinjecting gas to enhance oil recovery or storing dry gas in depleted fields until prices go up. Because of the rapid changes, many observers feel it will be mid-year before anyone knows what will happen to the natural gas business.
