Title: Control and management of desertification

Dertification is one of the major ecological problems in the world, which directly threatens the existence and development of human beings. At present there are 90 or so countries which is harmed by desertification in various degrees and China is one of the few countries which damaged seriously. The total area of the desertification in China reaches 3,327 thousand square km accounting 34% of its territory. What is more serious is that the desertification expands at a speed of two thousand km per year in this country. The expanding trends of China`s desertification during the 1990s falls into the following three types: (1) The type of aggravating desertification. (2) The type of medium devastated degrees caused by the scourge. (3) Although the expanding tempo of desertification has been ebbing away remarkably, the enchroached acreage is still going up in the area, averaging lower than 2% in annual growth rate.
